Sainsbury’s slashes price of new Call of Duty game
Supermarkets have been playing poker with each other in recent weeks over the retail price of the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – but finally the time has come for them to show their hand and it’s Sainsbury’s who have the ace in the pack.
Leaving aside our semantic field of casino games, you’ve got to hand it to Sainsbury’s who are offering the new Call of Duty release for just £26, totally usurping rival supermarkets such as ASDA and Tesco.
Tesco is also offering a big price cut on Modern Warfare 2 with a selling price of £25 BUT with the purchase of another bestselling game – otherwise it’s £39.70 on its own.
ASDA has confirmed that the highly anticipated game will retail at £32 when released today.
“We always try to offer the best value for money to our customers and I can only tell you that we will not be raising the price to £55 GBP on Friday.”
CoD: Modern Warfare 2 has been one of the first games that ASDA has taken pre-orders for, and according to ASDA Games Manager Duncan Cross, has been “extremely successful”.
“This has been the most successful pre-order game we’ve offered, bringing in 20 times more pre-orders than any other game,” said Cross.
The game has been dubbed the ‘crack cocaine of the computer world’ and has been put on the same addiction alert as alcohol and gambling, such as online casino.
