Failure of Toothpaste & Mouthwash in Chronic Bad Breath:
The bad breath can be classified in to three types depending upon the sources and it’s nature. It can be result of a situation like eating garlic and onions, occasional or chronic. Situational or occasional of short term and get removed, with little care by using toothpaste after each food taking, while going to bed and before breakfast. The freshness of the bad breath gets restored.
In chronic bad breath is termed halitosis, it is does not go away with use of tooth brush, flossing and mouthwash umpteen times in a day. The person suffering from halitosis becomes habitual to it and it is normal for the person, whereas a normal person can not tolerate even one fifth of such a smell comfortably and avoids talking or meeting such a person.
Most of the toothpastes contain sodium laureal sulphate as the detergent to cause foam in the oral cavity, which instead of removing the root cause of bad breath creates a strong cover up in the oral environment, making the feeling of freshness, which is far from reality. The source of the bad breath is still there, which increases with drying effect of mouth caused by detergent.
Mouthwash is alcohol based and it further increases the drying of mouth. The bad breath resurfaces strongly after the detergent gets diluted with over secretion of saliva. The effect of mouthwash and toothpaste is temporary only.
The Electric toothbrush is result of the technological advances and their application in items of daily utility. The mass production has affected price reduction, due to which now an average person can afford an electric toothbrush. It is electronic device involving miniature motor powered with 12 volt rechargeable cell with detachable brush head having superior bristles. The motor makes oscillating movements just like a manual brush. When it is switched on the operation continue for two minutes, which is sufficient to clean all the teeth.
